Primers and grounds are ideal for preparing drawing and painting surfaces prior to applying pastels, charcoal, graphite, chalk, or other dry media. These unique substances create a toothy, rough surface on papers, boards, canvas, and other substrates for the purpose of grabbing and holding onto dry media as it is applied. Some grounds can be blended with paints or mediums to create colored grounds or to increase tooth on a surface.
