Hardback Book-Rebinding with a Watercolor Cover

Description:

Come join local graphic novelist Argyle (NarwhalsExist.com) for a monthly bookbinding adventure! This month, we’re going to rebind a paperback book of your choice as a hardback with a watercolor cover. We’ll go over how to safely remove a cover from a paperback book, how to reinforce the book block’s spine, and how to attach and watercolor your own cover.  


Supply List without supply package: 

-a paperback book of your choice. Suggested no more than 1” thick

-a box-cutting knife

-a cork-back 18” ruler

-PH-neutral glue 

-bookbinding mull

-book board or another thick, flat cardboard 

-two matching sheets of patterned paper for the end pages 

-mull

-a bone folder

-scissors

-a pencil

-a book press. Preferably one with multiple tiers 

-a set of liquid or solid watercolors

-at least one watercolor brush

-a black art marker of any kind for details on the watercolor


Supply list if you purchase the supply package: 

-a paperback book of your choice. Suggested no more than 1” thick

-book cloth if you want a specific color/pattern

-a pencil 

-scissors

-a box-cutting knife

-a cork-back 18” ruler

-a book press. Preferably one with multiple tiers 


Extra Optional Items for Personalization: 

-cutting mat

-waxed bookbinding thread or embroidery floss IF you want a specific color

-a rotary cutter

-a heat gun

-ribbon and a charm for a bookmark

-a sketch or an .svg file of what you’d like for the front and back covers and spines

-one sheet of book cloth or another paper for the spine if you want a specific color

  • Non-Refundable Fee: All class fees are non-refundable. Once your payment is processed, it is considered final. 

  • Cancellations by the Shop: In the rare event that we need to cancel a class due to unforeseen circumstances (such as instructor illness, insufficient enrollment, or other emergencies), participants will be offered a full refund or credit towards a future class.

  • Agreement: By registering for a class, you agree to this non-refundable policy.  We recommend reviewing your schedule and availability before committing to a class.
